Site Plan Design

Project Start: 2010  Project Completion: Under Construction  Construction Cost: Estimated $3.0M

Baxter-Nye Engineering & Surveying was responsible for the survey, site design, permitting and construction administration services for the new Sturgis Charter School located at 125 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. The site is approximately 5.97 acres containing both upland and wetland areas. The majority of the site is within the RB Zoning District. The site is also within the WP and State Designated Zone II Overlay Districts. As a proposed school, the use is allowed in any zoning district by way of exemption. Design elements included preparing the site grading plan, designing the stormwater system in accordance with DEP Stormwater Regulations, parking lot and access design and a wetland restoration design for the proposed new building located on an undeveloped forested parcel. BN is currently serving as Construction Administrator for the project and will be responsible for preparing the As-Built plans.

The project involved restoring approximately 5,000 square feet of filled forested wetland resources. BN prepared the wetland restoration grading and planting plan for the project. A variety of plant species with high wildlife habitat value were selected for planting. Plantings selected were designed to provide a source of food and cover during all seasons. Coarse woody debris and organic soil amendments were included in the restoration design which would provide a steady and continuous source of nutrients without stressing the adjacent ecosystem.
